LISA TAYLOR

Lisa Taylor is a community leader and an outstanding attorney with a broad and diverse legal background.  She has substantial knowledge and experience in managing complex litigated matters including trials in state and federal courts and state appellate practice.  She has been given positive ratings by every bar association which has reviewed her credentials to serve as Judge.
Lisa believes strongly in helping foster children and making sure they are protected and provided with the best possible opportunities in life.  She has volunteered for years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Cook County for cases involving minors removed from their homes.  She educates the community about foster care issues and she has given presentations to Cook County residents of all backgrounds to help them understand their civil rights.  She served as a “Know Your Rights” presenter for the Cook County Bar Association’s Civil Rights Committee.
Lisa has been honored by distinguished organizations for her pursuit of justice.  She received the Phi Beta Sigma Crescent Moon Award for Legal Excellence – an honor given to African-American women who have made a difference in the community. She also received the Cook County Special Advocate Volunteer Spirit Award.  Lisa was also appointed to serve on the City of Chicago Board of Ethics where she worked to support integrity, honesty and transparency in government.

Educating and mentoring students and new attorneys – particularly those from communities of color – has long been a priority for Lisa.  She volunteers for Lawyers in the Classroom which provides students with the opportunity to learn civics from lawyers in active, developmentally-appropriate classes.  As a volunteer, Lisa goes to school classrooms several times a year to give presentations to students so they have a better understanding of the U.S. Constitution, our legal system, and law-related careers.  Lisa mentors UIC (formerly John Marshall) Law School students and was awarded their Black Law Students Association’s Legacy Action Award in 2019.
